General info

Google the most popular destinations in Bali and you’ll find a lot of them are situated in the southern part of the island. But what about northern Bali? What does this part of the archipelago represent? Well, as the majority is barely untouched, their natural attractions are like no other. The regency of Buleleng, for one, is well-known for its waterfalls and beaches. What you may or may not know is that Buleleng has a place that offers a blend of religious and nature tourism. It’s called Batu Kursi Temple. Surrounding the temple area is a panoramic view of the greenish, grassy slopes ― just like the ones you’d see on the Teletubbies series as a child.

Regarded as a very sacred area, the hill lies adjacent to the temple. With a total distance of 122.5 km from Denpasar, it takes about 3 hours to reach the location of Bukit Batu Kursi Temple. There is no entrance fee to the temple but visitors who travel by car will be charged Rp. 5,000 for parking.

The neighbourhood believes that the holy temple that has been sanctified by the surrounding community is a place to seek after signs and wonders from the Divine. Besides the Hindus who go here to pray, travelers from all the over world also enjoy the place for its calming scenery. The setting is exactly perfect for picnic and trekking. It’s definitely an ideal place for those of you who have an adventurous spirit!

This temple is named Batu Kursi which literally translates to Stone Chair after a large stone that stands still at the top of the hill. The stone has a diameter of about 20 meters and is shaped like a chair.

Batu Kursi Temple gives you a wonderful delight of natural beauty. Provided with adequate facilities such as parking lots, toilets, food stalls, and information booth at the temple area, you really have got nothing to worry about throughout your visit. As you take a deep breath of the fresh air, the comfortable yet clean atmosphere will surely keep your mind and heart at peace. For an experience that allows you to experience between spirituality and nature, put your traveler hat on and make your way to Batu Kursi Temple!

Fun fact: This hill is also used as military training ground for the Indonesian National Army (TNI).
